2024 FSA Steamboat, Colorado

On Saturday, January 20, 2024, 45 of us headed to Steamboat Springs for the 60^th Annual Flatlands Ski Association race trip. Most of the people flew in, but some drove on their own and met us there. We kicked off the first night with an OKC Ski Club Welcome Party at Trappeurs Crossing Condos, so everyone could meet, mingle and munch on pizza, appetizers and drinks. The condos were very accommodating and Trappeurs offered a wonderful shuttle service to/from the mountain.

Sunday was the first open ski day, but it was cloudy, and the visibility was tough at the top of the mountain, so many didn’t stay on the mountain long, however the day did give us a chance to get use to the elevation. It was great day being in the champagne snow again.

Monday was the Race Clinic for those that signed up, and another open ski day for everyone else. It was a beautiful day on the mountain! The FSA Welcome Party started at 6:00pm which was in the Champagne Powder Room at the top of the mountain. We got to take the Gondola to the top and take in the gorgeous view of the night lights.

Tuesday was the Open Race and Men’s Challenge Race. We had a good turnout and some of the men won some medals for their great races.

Wednesday was the Women’s Challenge Race/ Men’s Alternate Race, Snowboard Race, and the Team Snowshoe Race. Everyone did great in their races, and we won more hardware.

The Snowshoe race was at 4:00pm. We had two teams entered and one of them took the gold! It snowed a big part of the day with a wet snow, but it was gorgeous to see! At 6:00pm the Après Party got kicked off at Slopeside Grill and Los Locos. Everyone had a great time.

Thursday was another open ski day for most, but the Novice race was held at 1:00pm on Rough Rider. Many showed up for this race, so we made some good points for the club. The FSA Awards Banquet got started at 6:00pm with a great meal, awards, nice talk from Billy Kidd, and then we danced the night away. Must give a big shout out to our very own Bill Orland, the “Dancing King”, he took over the dance floor, literally…lol! Everyone had a great time and a big thanks to Boulevard for providing the beer.

Friday was a beautiful snowy day. Some took the day off and went downtown to shop, others went to the square, and others hit the slopes for one last time before departures.

Races all went very well and thanks to all who participated. You were all awesome!

I also want to thank everyone who went on this trip! It was great meeting all the new members and seeing all the old members. Hope to see you all very soon!

Wonderful evening under the stars and bright lights of the snow cats at the FSA welcome party. Skiing and boarding is always funner with a great group of friends that are a blast to get along with.
