While we took it just one day at a time the trip seemed to last and last and last. For those that went on the full trip we were gone 19 days. We experienced Rome, Canazei, and Venice in a whirlwind of travel. It is such a fun adventure to see people experience new destinations and relive where we have been before. From the Vatican, to the Colosseum, to the forum, to Napes and Pompeii, along the countryside at 180km/hr in high speed trains to Milan and Canazei we explored. We skied and boarded to our hearts content and then filled our bellies with plenty of Italian food, deserts, and “beverages”. We drank more wine than should be allowed and had a great time doing it. In addition we visited our old stomping grounds of Cortina from four years previous (we all remember what happened in 2020 right ?). And when it was time to leave and head to the Airport some of us said goodbye to our fellow travelers and grabbed another high speed train to Venice. Several more days of walking the cobblestone streets and experiencing alot of what Venice had to offer left us filled and wondering “what else” there could be. Good times were had by all and simple words cannot describe all that we took in during those entire 19 days.
Follow along below and read from the bottom up to view and experience some of what we beheld.
Thank you to all the wonderful participants that enjoyed, helped, and had big smiles throughout our time together. I can’t wait to take everyone on our next two years of adventures I have planned for everyone!
Ryan
First video is out to relive our skiventure in Canazei. The views were incredulous and great to see it in full sunshine.

Last day in Venice and we didn’t suffer a bit. It was a beautiful day with great friends and travel mates. All twelve of us had a blast roaming the streets of Venice. You know you have been here long enough when you can navigate the streets without using google maps. Plenty of gondola traffic jams on the side “streets” and the instagram selfie mobs were out. Capped off the evening with an intimate piano concert by András Schiff at Teatro La Fenice. Packed up the rest of the bags and off to the airport at O dark 30 again. Meanwhile somewhere over the Atlantic…….

Over the last two days we have explored Venice and have been able to see quite a few unique experiences. From standing inside and on top of the Piazza San Marco square clock tower, to the royal rooms of the Correr, and then the secret rooms of the Doge Palace with secret doors! There is nothing like being in the middle of history with just your group on a private tour after hours.
We made sure to celebrate St Patrick’s day at the oldest Irish pub in Venice Devils Forrest Irish Pub, visit Harry's Bar Cipriani, and raise toasts all across the island. One more day of adventure…..

Departure day at O dark 30 to get everyone home in one day. When people ask why so early? Today was one example of why. Bus #2 had a blown tire on the highway. After the two bus drivers attempted to remove the lug nuts and some consternation of some passengers the "tire truck" arrived and had them on their way. All passengers made their flights in Milan and twelve adventuresome folks headed to the trains for Venice. Just another travel day with a few bumps. Some people made it home on time and some had some travel delays in JFK and DFW.
Big shout out to the helpers on flights for our "hospital" crew. Yes we had a few injuries, but everyone is in good spirits. Wish them a speedy recovery!

Another wonderful ski and board day presented itself for exploration. Old man winter made an appearance and was beaming bright. Apres was glorious as sun was soaked in. Pictures were plentiful and every one was spectacular. We understand why some people never leave.

Day trip back to Cortina. How we missed you from four years ago almost to the day. We don't miss all the switchbacks however. One group hit Faloria and Cristallo to ski and board while another hit town to shop and eat and shop.

Over the past two days we have run the Sella Ronda circuit in both directions. 33 miles counter clockwise and 36 miles clockwise. We ate great Italian food on the mountain, took in exquisite views, and made several toasts. Not only do we have a great time on the slopes but the comraderie of the group ski day makes it even more fun.
Are you coming next time?

Today we started the skiventure in Italy. Our first day was "variable" with conditions deteriorating after lunch with snow dropping in buckets and visibility like fog in Oklahoma. We did manage to get in some great Italian mountain food and called it a day on the mountian. Knowing full well that Monday would be a spectacular day. So if you can't ski all day it's time for Apres! Drinks were had, snow was watched, and our missing club members finally boarded their plane. Thanks to ULLR we received the blessing of frozen water upon our destination.

Thirty one adventurous travelers made their way to the Roma train station and experienced the wonder of Pompeii and the Napolitano catacombs. After the many steps were overcome sights were seen and shivers were had pizza from Naples was consumed. It was said that the pizza was the best ever had and cost just 7 euros.
And at the the end of the long day we still had thirty one people return. Success!

Today the crew ventured out yet again to conquer Rome. Almost on queue to announce the significance of our arrival the heavens opened up and released a biblical proportion of hail upon the grounds. After visiting the Vatican yesterday we halfway expected there to be fire and frogs dropping around from somewhere above, but alas after ten minutes of hail the heavens opened back up again to reveal a sun filled day.
Yet again, we felt small knowing the historical significance of the grounds we were exploring. Gladiators had walked these floors, emperors had gazed from upon high, and the hordes had amassed to view the spectacle that is the Colosseum.
As we wore ourselves out again we were truly amazed immersing ourselves in our surroundings. Of course we had to toast our successful journey today and then gather our own thirty nine troops together to revel in the photographic treasure we had amassed. Our feast was consumed and our cups were raised to toast.
Of course we had to travel the countryside for one last conquest under the lights that illuminated our destination.
What an awesome group!

Today (seven hours ahead of Oklahoma) on the 5th day of March 2024 AD thirty eight souls from your ski club visited the Vatican. Although we didn’t have our water blessed nor any water miraculously turned to wine we bore witness to so many works of art, historically significant sculptures, tapestries, maps, and a feeling of being overwhelmed in our surroundings. The Sistine Chapel was a wonder to behold and so visually vast it was impossible to fully take it all in. After a somewhat brief 1.6km walk we took in the Mausoleum of Hadrian (AKA Castel of Sant Angelo). Home to the aforementioned emperor, many important figures, popes, and prisoners, it is said to be the location where the Archangel Gabriel marked the end of the plague of 590AD. Next the Pantheon and its immense open air dome top inspired us to wonder where the rain goes when it comes inside ? And finally the Trevino Fountain was photo worthy to cap off the day. What a great group of travelers. And to think we just started this trip…..
On to the Colosseum tomorrow.

Rome group has mostly arrived. Bus ride from the airport to downtown Roma and a “short walk” to the hotel. Roma streets are narrow in places! Welcome drink and snack, quick orientation, and let’s go explore……and then crash asleep.
What a great group with 3 more on the way. Off to the Vatican tomorrow. Follow along each day for updates.
