Switzerland 2026

Switzerland 2026 , 2/20 – 3/2

Do we have a story for you……and it starts off right at the airport on departure day.

OKC Airport everyone arrives on time ready for departure. All is going well until we get a notification that our flight has been delayed from OKC to DFW by about 45 minutes. We all have experienced delays and this one was no different. We still had 45 minutes in DFW to make our next connection in a different terminal….no worry. Notwithstanding I had a quick phone call and a chit chat with the gate agent to make sure our group of 34 people were on her radar. Next we had another delay announcement that shrunk our connection to 10 minutes. At this point I was mildly concerned and had another chat with the gate agent and a supervisor that had shown up. The supervisor was there to check on us and make sure things were moving along. I felt like we were in good hands. HOWEVER, there was another delay announcement that put us 15 minutes PAST our connection in DFW…..but at least the our plane was in the air and headed our way. The supervisor came over to talk and told us that she needed to get us in the air and she would get us taken care of in DFW. We were told to board the plane when our group was announced to make sure all our carry on luggage made it. Low and behold our plane arrives and we are still looking at connection that we will miss by 15 minutes. “OKC Ski Club will you please board the plane first”. Yep, all 32 of us get on BEFORE first class, before the elite members, and before David Spade. The plane loads as quick as possible and we are in the air still looking at a connection that is 15 minutes late. 20 minutes into the flight we start getting notifications of a gate change on our phones. Yep, the supervisor moved our arrival gate RIGHT NEXT to our connecting flight. No terminal change. Two minutes later another notification. The connecting flight was delayed for takeoff. They wanted to make sure we were going to make our connection……all 32 of us. We arrive in DFW, quickly deplane, and board at the next gate. Our luggage was moved from one plane to another directly. As we start to board our connecting flight the head flight attendant welcomed us on board over the speaker to applause on the plane.

It helps to have the right connections and know what procedures to follow. Your ski club has the pull to make some things happen. The connecting flight was literally held an extra 30 minutes to make sure we made it. Good things do happen.

Needless to say the rest of the flights were not as exciting….

We arrived in Zurich, passed through passport control, grabbed luggage, and boarded the busses. During our drive it started to snow….and not just “hey cool its snowing”….but large meatball sized flakes. It was dumping. Chain notices were out and the busses had to stop to put on tire chains. That much snow.

Facebook posts from each day are below and really summarize what shenanigans we got into on the trip. Read them from bottom up and re-live, or experience fresh, the phenomenal trip that over 60 people had. Your ski club does it right. We have fun and go places that are memorable. Along the way we sometimes have quite the travel stories to tell.

Thank you everyone for a wonderful time. It was great taking you all to a new place in the world.
Ryan

Day 8 was a travel day to Zurich. Once we arrived we started it off with a bang (which means drinks)! After getting everyone in a great mood it was off to explore all the different foods and experiences we could get our hands on. From traditional German, to Italian, to Japanese we sampled away. More birthday celebrations were had (even though at some point we really want to stop counting).

One more day and then it’s time to come home.

Day 7 wrapped up the ski time in St Mortiz as we ripped up some perfect slopes and left a burning sensation in some wallets. Morning train ride to another destination on the wonderful Swiss rail did not disappoint. Be late or slow and be left. Or catch the next stop and come back 🙂

Planes, trains, busses, and Choppahs.

Day 6 was a splendid gorgeous day. Very large Hugos were had along with plenty of social recreation. We watched the human birds soar into the sky while our city folk gallivanted around town.

The night was capped off with some birthday celebrations (whether they liked it or not).

Evidently we haven’t reached our fun quota for the trip. Maybe in the next couple days?

Day 5 cranked out the sun for our perfect mountain lunch day. All skiers and non skiers alike converged at the top of the mountain today to have lunch at 9500ft. There might have been some pictures taken. Drinks might have been had (don’t judge) and some great Swiss food. Relaxation was on full display as the drug we call “international trips” was absorbed into everyone’s system. Are you hooked ?

Day 4 Evening was a riot! 62 members converged on the hockey stadium in Davos to cheer on the local Hockey Club Davos. Of course our cheering helped bring home a 4-3 win that secured their place in the playoffs. Sold out games are an absolutely blast and such a loud environment. Great game, great friends, and great fellowship.

You can’t make this stuff up.

Day 4 started out “variable” but left its mark as a great day. Who said you can’t ski with your eyes closed ? Some pushed through the day and had an overall blast while others ventured with their shoes rather than skis. Shenanigans were performed and enjoyed by the participants while our “more refined” counterparts made use of the local watering holes.

Socialization is a skill. And with confidence it can be said that we have it.

Day 3 went down as another awesome playday. Skiing between the clouds proved intoxicating until they burned off and released some grateful sunshine. Red flags and bandanas traveled all across the mountain on piste and off. Food was eaten and drinks were consumed. Tired legs returned at the end of the day while riding the train down released a bit of satisfaction (or relief that you survived).

Meanwhile our contingent of more refined travelers hoofed it and rode throughout town doing some shopping and socializing. Hugos were had at Hugo’s while stories were told.

At the end of the day we all came back together for a wonderful dinner and told stories of our adventures. Some may have been true.

Night night USA. Until tomorrow adieu.

Day 2 is in the books as a phenomenal ski day. We woke up to over 8” that skied like 20” and played hard today! From the full contact sport that was the Paarsenbahn to the glorious off piste powder drops it’s assured we made a name for ourselves. Those red bandanas flying all over the mountain today caught many eyes. Meanwhile, our contingent of city explorers gallivanted all over Davos and checked out various cultural stops and cafes.

All in all we rocked this first activity day and put smiles on so many faces the Joker would be proud.

Oh!!!! And we watched team USA crank out a hockey Gold from several bars in Switzerland. How’s that for some international flair!

Day 1 travel day finished. We have arrived after what seems like a a 24 hour day stretched into 48. Touched down to rain in Zurich and then boarded the bus. 45 minutes into our ride the flakes just started dumping huge. Chain law went into affect and we knew its was coming.

Both buses arrived to a great reception and excitement. Mad dash to grab rentals went super smooth, some relaxation at the bar, then dinner and socialization, and then here we are. Exhausted, full, and ready for the day in front of us.

Time to hit the slopes tomorrow and see how much we wake up to. ❄️ ❄️ ❄️

Night night USA!

After some mild airport drama OKC Ski Club made it to DFW. Our fearless leader called in some favors, had our gate changed, and held the connecting flight so 32 people could make the connection.

Woop woop!!! Off we go!!!

Got to say hi to David Spade Unfortunately he had to wait for all of us to deplane in DFW 😉
